Cycling Glossary - Word of the Day

curb racing

Or "curb riding," this is a tactic used when there's a crosswind. Say it's coming from the left. If you're strong enough and want to set the pace you could move over close to the right curb to prevent other riders from coming up on your right side where they would be sheltered from the wind and could save energy. You're trying to ensure that they have to work as hard as you do.

Andy's Daily Tip

Protect That Derailleur - To prevent costly repairs, always remember that the rear derailleur is fragile: protect it. This is worth emphasizing because there are many times that the derailleur is at risk, such as during flat-tire repair, while shipping a bike -- even when parking. All it takes is the bike falling over for the rear derailleur to get hit and bent. Usually, we can fix the damage with special alignment tools. And, you can avoid such downtime. Think of your derailleur as a delicate object.  Watch out for it.
